Notifying (texting) customers when their order is ready (pickup only)

When an order is ready for a customer, mark the order as "Ready" in Square. This will send an SMS text to the customer letting them know their order is ready and they should come pick it up.

Porter sends your customer an SMS text notifying them that their order is ready to be picked up when you mark that order as "Ready" in Square. Here's how to do it:

  1. In the "Orders" section of your Square terminal, register, or dashboard...press on the order for which you want to notify your customer.
  2. Click the blue "Mark as..." button in the top right-hand corner of the order window.
  3. Click on the "ready" button in the new pop-up window.

FYI, the text your customer gets will look like this (but obviously have your location name included instead of "Porter Pies"!:

IMPORTANT NOTE: If your group admin has set text notifications to activate at the "group" level, a text message will ONLY be sent to the customer once all vendors involved in that particular order mark their individual orders as "ready" in Square or the group's expeditor has marked the order as "complete" in Porter's Group Orders interface. If you have any questions about these settings, please ask your group's admin for more details.

PRO TIPS:

  1. You can enable "Quick Actions" in your square terminal to make the notification process even more efficient. This will allow you to mark orders as "Ready" directly in the list of orders on your Square terminal rather than opening each one individually. To enable "Quick Actions" go to Settings > Orders > Quick Actions in your square terminal and toggle on the option. For more information on quick actions, see this support article.
  2. You can send a customized text to your customers within Square at any point that their order is active. This might be helpful if you need to inform them that you ran out of an item after they placed their order or if you have questions about their order.
