Pickup vs Table ordering

Porter is able to accomodate two options for order fulfillment: Counter Pickup and Table Service. Enable one or both of these options at the group level and set specific item availability at the vendor level.

Porter accommodates two "delivery" (or order fulfillment) options: "Table" and "Pickup." The key differences between "Table" and "Pickup" ordering are: 

  • "Table" ordering sets the expectation that your staff will deliver the order to the Customer's table. (This option is turned OFF by default. To turn ON table ordering follow the instructions in this Support Center article).
  • "Table" ordering requires the choice of a table number from the list of tables customized at the "Group" level (while "Pickup" does not) or the use of table-specific QR codes. This choice will show on the Customer's order in Square and will print out on the Square order ticket. This allows your staff to deliver the order to the Customer. 
  • "Pickup" ordering sets the expectation that the Customer will pick up the order, and your staff can text the user when the order is ready to be picked up. 
  • "Pickup" orders require all Customers to enter their phone number in order to place an order.

Setting item availability for "Pickup" and/or "Table Delivery"

You can set specific items on your menu to be available ONLY for pickup, ONLY for table service, or both. This is done through the "Edit" items section of your Porter Vendor Dashboard.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  1. By default, toggling on or off an item (or entire category or subcategory) will make ALL variations of that item (or all variations for all items in a category or subcategory) available for BOTH Pickup and Table Delivery. To set specific availability you must do so at the variant level.
  2. The selections you make will apply to your menu for every group of which you are a part. However, if a group of which you are a part has NOT enabled table service for that group, then table service will not be offered to customers even if you have this option selected for your menu. (For more information on enabling table service at the group level please see this Support Center article.)
