Use Square's Inventory Control Features

Porter syncs with Square's inventory control features

Overview

Square offers a full suite of inventory control features including the ability to track stock of individual items and variations. For more information about setting and using Square's inventory control features please see https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/6142-track-your-square-inventory.

If you make use of Square's inventory control features, there is nothing further or additional you need to do in Porter to sync availability of items through your Porter menu. (See below for more details.)

If you do NOT make use of Square's inventory control features, you will have to toggle items on and off your Porter menu manually in your Porter Vendor Dashboard. For more information on how to do this, please see this help article.

Specifics

If you make use of Square's inventory control features, each time you sell an item or variation through Porter for which you have set a stock amount in Square the stock is adjusted accordingly.

If an item or variation is "sold out" (whether because you manually marked the item "sold out" in your Square POS or "unavailable" in your Square for Restaurants account OR because you have depleted your stock through previous sales), that item or variation will be removed immediately from your Porter menu so that customers can no longer order it.

The item will automatically re-appear on your Porter menu for ordering once you have re-stocked the item in Square or manually turned the item back to "available" in Square.

Porter will also display an item or variation for sale again on your Porter menu at the time you have chosen in Square to "make it for sale again."

You can quickly view which items and variants are "marked sold out" and current stock levels of all your items and variants on the "Manage Items" page of your your Porter Vendor Dashboard. If there is no mention of stock levels or "Marked Sold Out" below an item or variant name, this indicates that inventory control features are not actively being used for this item or variant in Square.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You will notice that in the above example, even those items that are "Marked Sold Out" still have an active check mark in the availability columns. This indicates that the item or variation will automatically re-appear on your Porter menu once back in stock. To remove an item from your Porter menu regardless of being in or out of stock, uncheck the box in the relevant availability column.
