Turn on notifications in Square for new orders

You can receive a visual and audio notification on your iPad (Square terminal) when you receive a new order through Porter.

To turn on (or off) notifications when you receive a new Porter order in your Square POS app follow these instructions:

  1. Sign in to your Square account at squareup.com
  2. Click the "More" option at the bottom right of the dashboard.
  3. Click "Settings."
  4. Click "Orders" on the left hand side menu.
  5. Click "Order notifications" on the bottom left hand side menu.
  6. Make sure that "Allow new order notifications" is toggled ON.

You will also be notified of new orders by a small blue dot next to the bell icon at the bottom of your dashboard. This notification persists throughout the app, no matter what screen you are on, including the checkout screen.

Helpful hints:

  • By default, the notification received at the top of your screen is temporary and will disappear after a few seconds. You can change this so that the notification remains until you "swipe it away" by following these steps:
    • Go to "Settings" in your iPad (NOT within the Square App)
    • Click on "Square" amongst the other apps listed on the left side menu.
    • Make sure that "Banner Style" is set to "Persistent" rather than "Temporary"
  • If you plan to listen for the audio notification when receiving new orders, make sure the volume on your iPad is turned all the way up!
